Backcountry: A Buddy System

The backcountry can be a treacherous place. It is, typically, not a place you venture out into alone. With that, I am looking for an individual or two to join me on a couple of backpacking adventures next year. Potential locations are TBD. The vast majority of them will likely be in the Colorado/Utah areas.

Many of my backpacking trips are only overnighters, though a few of them can be 4-day / 3-night adventures and everywhere in-between. It all depends upon the goals for the trip, weather, and availability/flexibility.

Here are a few things that I think are important to be familiar with prior to backcountry hiking.

  • Fire Building / Spark Lit (At Minimum)

  • Navigation

  • Leave No Trace

  • Bear Awareness

  • Navigation

  • Orienteering

  • Water Filtration

  • Layering

Full Disclosure: I will have my loyalties split between two loves while out in the backcountry. On one hand, I love the outdoors. Just sitting and enjoying the nature around me is comforting. On the other hand, I love photography. I will likely be distracted from the natural beauty by the desire to photograph it. Here are a few of my more recent photography outings. Here are some of my previous write-ups from older trips I went on. Next year will be my first year integrating photography with multiday backcountry backpacking.

If getting out for a few days in the backcountry sounds good to you, and you are in need of a backpacking partner, fill out the form below. I will be reviewing forms as they are submitted.
