Day 2

Day two found us driving into a wilderness area near Park City, UT. I decided to get the long lens out and get some intimate shots of the Fall colors. I liked how the light hit near evenly, due to the overcast day, and how the bright subjects separated themselves from the darker background.

Later, I put the drone up and scoped out the area a bit. I took a couple of images and then packed it up. Nothing major. It was time to move on to the next UT destination.

BTS upon arrival at the Bonneville Salt Flats

We drove to the Bonneville Salt Flats, UT. I’d been there before when the winds were blustery and there were no reflections on the water at all. Today, I could see a slight breeze while driving and it was concerning due to the fact that we were really driving two hours out of the way to go to the location. Luckily, once we got there, the water was perfect as was the wind. Just a few miles down the road, the winds were blowing, but here, there was no wind at all.

I shot reflections of the clouds, and the surrounding mountains, as well as had a bit of fun with a few creepy reflection images.

As I mentioned earlier, we drove two hours out of our way to get to the Salt Flats. I say out of the way because, once we were done shooting, we intended to drive back the way we came to visit Donut Cave.

I hiked toward the cave with what gear I thought I'd need. I thought I shed a bit of gear, but what was left in my bag was still quite heavy. It began raining on us while hiking to the cave. We got to the base of the cave where there was a steep rock climb to the top. Doing a steep rock scramble to ascend to the cave area didn’t seem like a great idea with the rocks being slippery due to the rain that continued to fall. We both decided that it was too risky as the climb down the rocks, with gear, while wet, wasn't worth the risk. With that, we hiked back in what became a worse rain. I was freezing as I’d recently lost quite a bit of weight due to a hospital visit over the summer. I’ve simply got no meat on my bones anymore. In addition, I ended up without a cave image either. 😩

Having struck out at the cave, we made our way into Midway, UT, and put up for the evening. Ben cooked an awesome Chicken Ramen dish! It was good, especially compared with typical camping food. The morning plans were to drive into the mountains and shoot Fall Colors with snow!
