I’ve got no idea what the towing capacity of the L300 is, but it didn’t matter; I needed (wanted) a hitch. After looking around, I decided to order the triple hitch that Xplormor Offroad was building.

Packaging the L300 hitch was shipped in from Xplormor Offroad.

The packaging that the hitch came in was great! So far so good! Now, for the removal of the old “bumper” and install of the hitch.

I dropped the spare down. This was more of an adventure than I anticipated and definitely not something I’d want to do while off-road. I’ll carry a spare here, but I also plan to toss one up top on the roof rack. Well, I will, just as soon as I get a rook rack. I’m also considering replacing the spare underneath with a third fuel tank. I also broke one of the original bolts when removing the old bumper. No amount of reverse drilling or heat would get it out. I’d have to move on with it in there.

There are versions of the triple hitch out there that have less mounting points. This one has three on each side.

It took a bit to get all of the holes lined up, but with enough determination we got it done. Tip: Brute force is not your friend here. Try finesse.

Fun Fact: I had zero known need for the hitch as of the moment we tightened the last bolt. Within one hour of having the hitch installed, I was over at my neighbor’s house hooking up his old and my new-to-me trailer. Now, I had something to drag down the service roads and gather firewood for the winter!
