Comm Channels
BLUF: In the future, I will emphasize focusing my social media socializing on my Facebook Subscriber’s Section.
‘SOCIAL’ Media:
One of the things that I like most about social media is, well, being social. Up to this point, I’ve tried to dialogue with everyone as individually as possible all the while knowing that it wasn’t sustainable assuming that my social media footprint continued to grow at the pace that it was on. Well, it did. Now, what?
Currently, there are many of you with whom we tend to chit-chat regularly through the comments section. Maybe you’ve noticed, maybe you haven't, but that has likely been a bit less than usual. It isn’t that I don’t want to communicate—I promise—but more often than not, it is because I don’t run across your comment until days later, maybe weeks later; maybe not at all.
PRODUCTIVITY:
I’ve found myself spending hours on end “doing things” on social media, but when I look around me, nothing in my life is getting done. My online courses aren’t writing themselves, and neither is my Photography Guide, my coffee table book, or my 2025 photography plan and absolutely none of that captures the things in my life that are outside of photography. You know, normal day-to-day tasks, family, vehicle maintenance, home ownership, etc. Speaking of home ownership, I own an old cabin set in the woods. If you ever want to stay busy, get yourself one of those!
I’m left with a few options. Is one of those options to “do nothing?” No, that isn’t an option. Doing nothing means to keep doing what I am now and that is not sustainable. I’ve got to do something. I tried inserting more hours into the day, but that somehow didn’t work. ;-) It’s no secret that I’ve wanted to leave social media altogether. Between the AI BS, Intellectual Property thievery, and the blatant dishonesty of some of the members of our society, who could blame me? Tho, after some serious thought, I’ve decided that wasn’t the best move. So, doing nothing isn’t an option, and leaving social media isn’t a path that I can realistically take. Where does that leave us/me?
SUBSCRIBER’S SECTION:
I looked around for a middle ground and I think I’ve found one, my Subscribers section on Facebook (FB). Facebook is currently where most of my social media following is and where I spend most of my time on social media. People tend to see results where they put in effort and FB is where I put most of my social media effort. Eventually, I will get Instagram (IG) figured out, but until then, FB is my social media landing spot.
Within my FB account, I have a Subscribers’ Section. Some of you reading this may be a Subscriber already. If you are, let me take this opportunity to tell you that I appreciate your support. As a Subscriber, you may like what I have to say next; I am going to be putting a lot more effort into this area of my FB Page. By default, that is going to mean that I’ll be putting less effort into my non-subscriber section.
MONEY GRAB?
Now, some of you are likely groaning right now at the apparent money grab. Let me assure you, that isn’t what this is. On the financial side, a subscription is less than a dollar per month. I’d set it lower if I could, but FB will not let me. I have it as low as it can go. Also, I’ll never raise it as long as that is in my control. I don’t want a person to not subscribe due to the cost. So, why do it?
DIRECTED ENERGY:
I need a delineator. I can’t simply say, “Hey, everyone, if you are truly serious about being social on social media, simply tag me. Or, “Hey, everyone, …, simply comment on my Post.” That is how things currently are on my FB Page and I am trying to tell you that, at least on my end, it isn’t sustainable. I need a better way. Having a place set aside for Subscribers only, people who I am more confident want to socialize, is the path that I’ve decided to go with.
IT’S NOT GOODBYE:
For those of you who do not want or can’t subscribe, there’s still hope for socializing. I am going to try and set aside an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening purely for social media. It’ll be during this timeframe that I’ll try to be online and socializing as much as possible before I literally must put the phone down and start on my next task on my ever-growing List-O-Things-To-Do. During this hour is when I’ll post a morning post or an evening post if I have one. It’ll be in that comments section where I’ll be to chat. I’ve got to try to create some sort of a schedule that I can stick to. Currently, I think it looks vaguely something like this:
Non Subscribers Section (morning 1hr) | Subscriber’s Section (All Day) | Non Subscribers Section (evening 1hr) M-F 365
No matter which path you choose, Subscribe or not, I appreciate your support! I will try to socialize when and where I can.
